Buddha Purnima (बुद्ध पूर्णिमा), also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is a major Buddhist festival commemorating the birth, enlightenment (nirvana), and death (Parinirvana) of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. According to the Buddhist lunar calendar, it is usually celebrated on a full moon day in the month of Vaisakha (April or May).
The festival is marked by a variety of religious activities such as meditation, chanting of Buddhist scriptures, offering prayers, and hearing lectures about Buddha's life and teachings. Devotees also perform acts of charity, such as feeding the poor and assisting the needy, in memory of Buddha's teachings on compassion and kindness.
