Shri Ram, also known as Lord Rama, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. As the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu and the central figure of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana, Shri Ram embodies the ideals of virtue, chivalry, and righteousness. Born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya in Ayodhya, he is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and married Sita, an incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing divine love and virtue.
Shri Ram's life is marked by a significant period of exile, which he undertook due to a promise made by his father. Along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, he spent 14 years in the forest. During this time, Sita was abducted by the demon king Ravana, leading to a great battle where, with the help of Hanuman and an army of monkeys, Shri Ram defeated Ravana and rescued Sita, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
After completing his exile, Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya and was crowned king. His reign, known as Ram Rajya, is often remembered as a period of peace and prosperity. Shri Ram is frequently depicted as the perfect man (मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम) who upholds dharma and fulfills his duties, representing the ideal son, husband, and king. His life serves as a model of moral and ethical behavior, celebrated through festivals like Rama Navami and Diwali, which commemorate his birth and his victorious return to Ayodhya, respectively.
