Maa Durga, also known as Devi Durga, is among the most revered deities in Hinduism, renowned for her immense strength, protection, and divine power. She symbolizes motherhood, the destruction of evil, and cosmic energy. Depicted with multiple arms carrying various weapons, riding a lion or tiger, she embodies fearlessness and combativeness. Legend holds that the gods created Durga to defeat the buffalo demon Mahishasura, who had been granted invincibility by a boon. After nine days and nights of battle, Durga's victory on the tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra, signifying the triumph of good over evil.

Navaratri, a nine-night festival, honors Maa Durga and her nine forms, known as Navadurga. Each day is dedicated to a different manifestation of the goddess, including Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri. Predominantly celebrated in West Bengal, Durga Puja marks Maa Durga's victory over Ma hishasura.
